Created as part of my 2022 university coursework
The objective of this project was to create a unique and nature-inspired logo for Coope Santa Cecilia, a plantain cooperative in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Coopesanta Cecilia is a cooperative based in the Santa Cecilia region of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. As a socially and economically driven organization, it operates under a collaborative model aimed at fostering the well-being and development of its communities. The cooperative focuses on providing agricultural support, promoting economic growth, enhancing education, improving health, and ensuring access to essential goods.
In the Guanacaste context, Coopesanta Cecilia stands out for its dedication to sustainable agriculture and its support for small-scale farmers, particularly through the cultivation and production of plantain, a vital sector for the region’s economic development.
After conducting a study of the market and competition, and meeting with the people in charge of the cooperative, they provided us with three major concepts they wanted to incorporate into our logo proposal:

First sketches
This first round of sketches was inspired by the movement of the leaf and how its shape could be incorporated into the main logo. The sketches also explored using the shape of the leaf itself as a key design element. However, it wasn't until after this round that I considered using the rib of the leaf to symbolize unity, as it is the structure that holds the leaf together. This idea became central to the design, reinforcing the cooperative’s values of collaboration and strength while adding a natural, organic connection to the visual identity.

FINAL LOGO
The logo draws inspiration from the form of a leaf, symbolizing the cooperative's strong connection to nature and its focus on plantain-based products, while not limiting the brand solely to plantains, allowing for future expansion into other products. The bold, organic lines create a structured yet natural feel, reflecting both sustainability and strength. The earthy green palette emphasizes the natural origins of their products and conveys freshness and vitality. Clean, modern typography was paired with the design to enhance readability and give the brand a professional yet approachable identity.
